Earthships are a style of architecture using passive solar earth shelters made of both natural and recycled materials designed to withstand the extreme temperatures. The outer walls in are made of earth-rammed materials that can include concrete, adobe, earth bags, tires, or stone, Intended to be "off-the-grid-ready" home with minimal reliance on public utilities and fossil fuels, Earthships are constructed to use available natural resources using energy from the sun and rain water. They are mainly designed as single-story with thermal mass construction and natural cross-ventilation to regulate indoor temperature.
